Electrical Engineer

SUMMARY:

Designs, generates and maintains electrical drawings, bills of materials, etc. for use in the manufacture of products and systems by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING.  OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED:

  • Coordinates multiple projects to completion utilizing project management skills.
  • Works with customers, sales, production, engineering, and other areas to determine requirements.
  • Works from discussions, sketches, prints, etc. to visualize product; determines and lays out materials to ensure process, configuration, space, safety and other requirements are considered; provides necessary documentation.
  • Prepares drawings of Control Systems for Custom Conveyor Systems, including Wiring Diagrams and Panel Layout diagrams, for customer approval.
  • Uses drafting techniques and computer aided equipment to prepare electrical detail drawings and wiring diagrams for necessary views, dimensions, materials and other related data; makes calculations for bills of materials and other specifications.
  • Prepares PLC / HMI programs that ensure the proper function of Control Systems for Custom Conveyor Systems; installs and tests the proper function of the PLC / HMI programs prior to shipping.
  • Confers with other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.
  • Works with customers and vendors regarding technical issues; insures adherence to customer specifications, delivery, regulatory compliance, etc.
  • Works with manufacturing regarding processes and electrical problems. Makes recommendations regarding material usage, etc.
  • Assists production personnel in troubleshooting and resolving problems.
  • Assists application engineering by offering technical support and generation of proposal drawings.
  • Follows progress of work; anticipates or investigates delays and inadequate performance.
  • May design Electrical Systems with Relay Logic.
  • May travel to the customer’s facility to perform start-up and commissioning services, or to troubleshoot operational issues and make changes to the PLC / HMI programs.
  • Ensures that all activities are performed in compliance with the Quality System.
  • Assists with product safety and risk analysis.
  • Recommends cost-cutting measures and design improvements.
  • Takes corrective action as necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience designing electrical controls for industrial machinery using motor starters, relays, limit switches, push buttons, etc.
  • Experience creating and editing electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, preferably using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience programming common commercial PLC/HMI products using more than one of these software packages:
    • Siemens STEP7 / WinCC
    • Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500/5000 / PanelView Plus
    • Mitsubishi GX Works / GT Designer
    • Eaton easySoft
    • Toyopuc PCwin
  • Good communication skills, able to work with mechanical project engineering and customer to ensure project success.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  BS in Electrical Engineering or BS in Electrical Engineering Technology with at least 3 years of experience noted above.  BS in Electrical Engineering Technology or other Engineering disciplines with significant PLC programming experience will be considered.

COMPUTER SKILLS: MS Office applications. AutoCAD, PLC Programming.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. 15% to 30% travel is required generally in North America (US, Canada and Mexico)

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
